Labuan Bajo, Flores (December, 2023) - On 15 December 2023, AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach held Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities as part of a series of celebrations for this year’s festive season. Celebrating the gift of giving, the team from AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach brought Santa Claus to entertain and provide school supplies, such as notebooks, reading books, pencils, and Christmas cookies to 60 elementary school children at Sekolah Dasar Wae Wu'ul located in Komodo District, West Manggarai Regency.

Commenting on this event, Dermot Birchall, General Manager of AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach, says, "Our small gesture during this festive season signifies our support for the local children in our local community, supporting their well-being and education. It is essential for us to participate in ensuring the future of the local community, with a particular focus on the children who will shape Labuan Bajo's future as a world-class destination."

Beyond gifting, AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach's CSR programs also focus on marine life education. On 16 March 2023, the hotel invited 50 local children to participate in the Marine Life Workshop and coral-planting program. Children from a local school were taught directly by AYANA's Marine Biologist, Lee Miles, about the intricacies of coral. The lessons covered various topics, including the types of coral found in Komodo National Park, the benefits of coral for human survival, and ways to maintain the survival of coral.

Additionally, AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach is actively promoting plastic awareness this year by educating 60 students about the environmental damage caused by single-use plastics, as well as 7 teachers, to continue educating other students. As a culmination of the program, the hotel team provides children with beautiful, long-lasting tumblers as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bottles.

"The children of Labuan Bajo and the surrounding area are poised to become the environmental champions of the future. Residing in an environment where the ocean and coral reefs surrounding Flores host unparalleled marine biodiversity, it becomes imperative for us to actively engage in educating the future generations about these crucial ecosystems," Dermot concludes.
