Some of Komodo's best reef watching happens without getting wet. Aboard the glass-bottom boat Lako Taka, you look straight down at the coral heads off Bidadari Island and Kukusan Kecil — angelfish, triggerfish, Moorish idols, and the clownfish children recognize on sight. A resident marine biologist explains the difference between the hard and soft corals as you drift over them.
The water here is calm and shallow, which makes it an easy outing for young kids and non-swimmers. Watch the sand for blue-spotted stingrays, and keep an eye out for the occasional turtle or dolphin. Lifeguard and boat engineer on board; water included; departs from the jetty.
A glass floor opens right onto the coral.
A marine biologist names the fish as you go.
